Day 1

Arrival Day

Upon arrival, feel free to relax and breathe in the beauty of the Azores. Before heading out, a welcome lunch is provided. All the questions you may have about the tour or any other subject should be answered by the guides.

After our lunch, the first stop of the day will be Vista do Rei viewpoint. One of the most popular spots of the island, overlocking the massive volcanic crater of Sete Cidades, with two multi colored lakes of Lagoa Verde and Lagoa Azul. It’s an incredible site and the best way to have a sense of the surrounding area.

Further along the dirt road, we get to one of the highlights of the Azores, Boca do Inferno viewpoint. The crater lakes of Sete Cidades can be viewed from several different viewpoints, but it’s hard to beat this spot. Not to mention, it doesn’t require much effort to reach the overlook.

For sunset, we drive through Sete Cidades town down to Mosteiros beach to capture the last light of the day in a beautiful seascape photography location.

Day 2

São Miguel Island

Our second day starts at Lago do Fogo, one of the highest points of the island. It usually tends to be cloudy or foggy during the day and ultimately ruin any potential view to be had, so we try our best early in the morning.

We head down to Salto do Cabrito waterfall and also enjoy a dip at Caldeira Velha hot springs pools, surrounded by exotic green vegetation that looks unreal.

After lunch, we visit Gorreana. The oldest and currently only tea plantation in Europe. We will visit other locations in the island as time and weather permits.

Vila Franca do Campo is our last destination of the day. The view from the top of Nossa Senhora da Paz with the city and the islet in the background is a must have if you visit São Miguel Island. Classified as a nature reserve, Vila Franca islet is a paradise.

Heading back to our Hotel, we have the opportunity to enjoy dinner at one of the best restaurants of the Island, with the benefit of having the Atlantic ocean as our background music.

Day 3

São Miguel Island

Relax and enjoy the views. Our last day in São Miguel Island.
We explore the valley of Furnas. One of the main attractions of the Island and the home of the cozido das Furnas and bolo lêvedo. We make our way to Lagoa das Furnas, the biggest lagoon of the Azores.
Next, we head to Terra Nostra Park, considered one of the most beautiful gardens in the world, with the added bonus of having a thermal water pool. At a temperature of between 35 and 40 degrees celsius, provides a sensation of rest and relaxation available at very few locations in the world.
We head out of the valley to the waterfall of Ribeira Quente. The rugged landscape and lush endemic vegetation makes for a really nice drive. The road is simply beautiful. If the weather permits, we also have other amazing spots planned. Time will tell.

Day 4

We arrive at the best kept secret of Europe, the wild and beautiful Island of Flores.
For our first day, we focus on the western point of the Island, starting with Rocha dos Bordões. One of the most famous natural monuments of the Islands, formed by a set of
large vertical basalt columns unique to the Azores.
Next, we head out to one of the most picturesque areas of all our tour, Ribeira do Ferreiro and its waterfalls. There is no short of photography opportunities here. To get to the lagoon, there is a small hike involved but it’s totally worth it.
It’s almost sunset time, so we had back to our cars for a fifteen minute drive to another famous spot, Poça do Bacalhau at Fajã Grande. If the light is right, having a different perspective with a drone really elevates the game.

Day 5

Depending on the weather, we can choose between two locations. The panoramic view of Lagoa Negra and Comprida or the seascape of Baía dos Cedros, a rocky bay overlooking a group of rugged basalt sea stacks as our main subject and Corvo Island in the background. Both of these spots provide a really good photo opportunities for sunrise.

Continuing our journey, we head out to discover the coast of the Island by boat. A perfect opportunity to put into practice some of the tips and tricks that our guides will share during the tour. Also on our list, is the impressive landscape of the northwest end of Flores Island, with Albarnaz lighthouse looking strong on top of the cliffs.

After dinner, we have one more activity left on our day, we try our luck with astrophotography at Rocha dos Frades. Despite the Azores being known for its impressive weather, if the conditions are right, Flores Island is an ideal spot for this type of photography.

Day 6

Early morning flight to Terceira Island. Home of the Unesco world heritage site of Angra do Heroísmo. After setting in at the hotel, we have some free time to enjoy the city, before we head out to discover the Island. The viewpoint of Monte Brasil is the perfect spot to start.

After lunch we go straight to the central part of the Island, to the Black Forest.  A unique location due to its dense vegetation, light has a really hard time penetrating these trees. Depending on the weather, photographing here is never the same.

Ten minutes down the road, we get to one of the highlights of the Island, Algar do Carvão. The only volcano in the world that you can walk inside it. Unfortunately, tripods are not allowed, so bring the fastest and widest lens you have.

For sunset, we visit Serra da Ribeirinha. On top of the southern rim of a volcano, we have a panoramic view of the coast. With Serra do Morião and Serra Santa Bárbara on the right side, overlooking Monte Brasil and two more Islands on the background, São Jorge and Pico.

Day 7

Big vistas and seascapes, that’s our plan for the day. We start early with a drive, visiting the best locations as we chase the light along the coast.

At noon, we arrive at Praia da Vitória to have lunch and enjoy the view of the beach. Terceira Island is known to have the best food of the Azores, so we have to make the best out of it. We head out to the north part of the Island, to Ponta do Mistério. One of the Islands most attractive coastal areas. A mysterious green-glazed lunar landscape, with the blue Atlantic ocean in the backdrop, creates an amazing sight.

Next on our list is the popular summer spot of Biscoitos. A picturesque town, known for its wine growing region and even more for its beautiful natural pools. The rugged black colored lava fields sculpted by waves makes for really interesting landscape.

Considered the most beautiful viewpoint in Portugal, we reserved the best for last. The unique view to the interior of the island, known as the “patchwork”, consisting of walls of volcanic stones dividing the farmer fields in to square shaped figures, makes Serra do Cume the epic spot to photograph the last light of the day. Especially during October to March. To truly complete the full Azorean experience, we need to finish our tour the right way – by having a fantastic meal with a local family.

Day 8

Departure Day

It is time to say goodbye to the Azores with memory cards full of amazing photos!

We will be staying in clean, comfortable hotels throughout this trip. Pricing is based on double room occupancy. Please let us know if you are willing to share a room with another participant to get discounted pricing on hotel rooms.
