Faroe Islands

Faroe Islands

Remote and mysterious. Rugged and dramatic – yet so beautiful.
The Faroe Islands have a magnetic attraction for landscape photographers.

Isolated in the Atlantic Ocean halfway between Norway and Iceland, National Geographic named the Faroe Islands the most authentic and unspoiled group of islands in the world. This comes as no surprise to us.
Battered by the elements, towering cliffs rise from the deep sea.
Huge waves are constantly pounding the shoreline, creating amazing formations.
Dynamic, constantly changing light and weather makes these islands magical for photography – you can experience 4 seasons in an hour!

Join us on this 8 day photography workshop to visit this magical place in July when the islands are stunningly green and fresh, Puffins can be found, and the temperature is comfortable.

You can find more information about what to expect during this workshop below. However, to give you the opportunity to capture the best images possible, this itinerary will be kept flexible.

On a typical day, you can expect long hours. As this workshop focuses on landscape photography, to take advantage of the best light you will be up early to capture the sunrise and out past sunset.
Daylight hours will be spent shooting and/or traveling to the next destination. If the weather isn’t ideal, we will use the time for post-processing.

Our Photo Guides will monitor weather forecasts, road conditions, and any other factors and plan the days to optimize shooting conditions.
Our goal is to put you in the best locations at the right time with the best light so you can capture fantastic images.

Day 1: Arrival

After meeting the group at Vagar Airport we will drive to the starting point of the workshop – the amazing village of Gjogv.
Here we check-in at the wonderful Gjaargardur Guesthouse. This place is simply breathtaking. Wonderful staff, amazing food, and breathtaking views overlooking the surrounding mountains and fjords.

We will shoot sunset in one of the seascape spots in Gjogv.

Days 2 - 3: Northern Faroes

We will spend our first few days exploring the incredible areas in the northern parts of the Faroe Islands. Places like Tjørnuvik and Saksun are on the list, in addition to many incredible unnamed spots.

Stunning locations are scattered around, and the weather and light conditions are constantly changing. We will be driving around in our van chasing the fabulous light, making sure we are at the best locations at the best times!

Days 4 - 8: Vagar

On day 4 we drive south towards Hotel Vagar which is conveniently located in the middle of a long list of epic locations including Leitisvatn, Gasadalur, Tindholmur, Bøur and Sornfell Mountain. These spots are simply incredible and must be seen in person!
We will continue to keep the itinerary flexible so that we can move around according to the conditions.

On the final day, we will have breakfast at the hotel and say goodbye.
The hotel is located at the airport so we can walk to the airport.

Important Workshop Information

Our workshop's itinerary is subject to change at the discretion of our Photo Guides depending on factors including but not limited to weather, road conditions, transportation delays, and other factors beyond our control. We will check the weather forecasts and road conditions and plan our day to optimize shooting conditions.

We cannot guarantee that we will be able to visit all the locations on the itinerary.

A mild to moderate level of fitness is required for this workshop.

Most shooting locations are easily accessible via a short hike.
However, sometimes this may be across rough, uneven, icy or muddy terrain that includes elevation changes. Our Guides will let you know if a photography destination involves a long hike, steep incline or particularly challenging terrain, and provide alternative shooting locations or other options if you don’t feel comfortable.

Participants should also be able to carry their own camera gear while hiking.

Sometimes we may remain in a location shooting for a few hours. Participants should be comfortable outdoors for extended periods of time in various weather conditions such as wind, rain, sun and extremes of temperature. Wherever possible, our Guides will keep the vehicle available nearby so participants can rest and take a break.

All participants should be in good physical shape with no mobility issues. If you have any concerns about your suitability, then reach out to us and we will be happy to discuss the particular location details of the workshop with you.

You must advise Viking International Phototours in advance and in writing to info@vip-ehf.com of any illness, injury, or pre-existing medical conditions that might reasonably be expected to affect your participation during the workshop.

This workshop is provided through Kah-Wai Lin Photography.
